Abstract: Nursing handover is an activity for transferring information from one shift to another shift for continuing nursing care. The purpose of this developmental study was to improve the quality of nursing handover in Female Medical Ward 2 at Maharaj Nakorn Chiang Mai Hospital using the PDCA continuous quality improvement process. The process consisted of plan, do, check, and act (Deming, 1994). The population of this study were 11 registered nurses. The research instruments were interview guidelines and the nursing handover observation checklist developed by the researcher. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and content analysis. The results revealed that registered nurses could completely and correctly perform more than 90.00 percent of nursing handovers. Problems of the improvement process included incompleted records of the nursing handover form. Registered nurses were satisfied with the quality improvement process because of the clearness and completeness of the nursing handovers as well as the quality and continuity of care Results of the study showed that the PDCA was an effective process for quality improvement of nursing handover which nursing administrators can use to improve other activities in other units.
