Abstract: The research study on the roles of Village headmen in solving conflicts in a community, a case study of Wang Chin District, Phrae Province, aims to: 1) investigate the roles of the subdistrict and village headmen in resolving conflicts within their community, 2) study various types of the conflicts and guidelines for appropriate conflict management in the subdistrict and village headmen's community. This study was a combination of quantitative and qualitative research implemented by collecting data from questionnaires and in-depth interviews of 81 individuals who were specifically selected, in order to study, analyze as well as summarize statistical and descriptive data regarding the role of the subdistrict and village headmen of Wang Chin District, Phrae Province in resolving conflicts within their community, together with types of the conflicts and guidelines for appropriate conflict management. The results of the study indicated that the subdistrict and village headmen played an important role in resolving conflicts within the communities in Wang Chin District, Phrae Province The conflicts often arising in the community in which the subdistrict and village headmen needed to resolve were in the type of interpersonal conflicts, including controversy and blasphemy, land dispute, interpersonal liabilities, burglary, group conflicts or conduct of group activities, usurpation of public policy and liabilities for non-payment of community funds. through a wide variety of conflict management methods. However, using compromise or mediation and community engagement was the primary approach, along with other methods to solve those conflicts in the communities. As for suggestions based on the results of the study, there should be a potential development plan for the subdistrict and village headmen as well as the community committees to broaden their basic legal knowledge and other laws concerning the conflicts in the communities that often arise. Educating on how to handle different types of conflicts should also be included. Moreover, there should be a village committee appointed to represent their community to mediate each conflict occurring within the community.
