Abstract: The functional status of first-time advanced age mothers is important to the physical and psychosocial health outcomes of both mothers and newborns. This descriptive correlational research aimed to explore the functional status of first-time advanced age mothers and the relationship between anxiety, social support, and functional status of first-time advanced age mothers. The participants were 85 first-time mothers aged 35 years old and above who were 6-8 weeks postpartum and received, checkup services at Maharaj Nakorn Chiang Mai Hospital, Health-Promoting Hospital, Regional Health Promotion Center 1 Chiang Mai, Lamphun Hospital, and Lampang Hospital between May and December 2020. The research instruments were 1) the Demographic Data Record Form, 2) the Maternal Functional Status Inventory developed by Baosoung, Sansiriphun, and Tiansawad (2014), 3) the State Anxiety Inventory Form Y by Spielberger et al. (1983), Thai version by Nontasak, Aemsupasit, and Thapinta (1992), and 4) the Mother Social Support Questionnaire by Sitthiboonma, Kantaruksa, and Supavititpatana (2020). Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and Pearson's product-moment correlation. The results revealed that: 1 . The vast majority of first-time advanced age mothers, 96.5 %o, had a high level of functional status, with a mean score of 3.45 (S.D. = 0.25). 2. Anxiety was moderate negatively correlated with the functional status of first-time advanced age mothers (r = -.397, p <.01). 3. Social support was moderate positively correlated with the functional status of first-time advanced age mothers (r = .485, p <.01). These findings suggest that first-time advanced age mothers should be assessed for functional status, anxiety, and social support. Nurse-midwives should develop strategies to reduce anxiety and enhance social support to increase the functional status of first-time advanced age mothers.
