Abstract: The purposes of the research were to regard the effects of anodization on shear bond strength of titanium and self-adhesive resin cements and the roughness of titanium surface. A total of 84 titanium pieces were polished with 100, 400, and 600 grit water sandpaper sequentially using a polishing machine at a speed of 200 revolutions per minute for 1 minute under cooling with water. The test pieces were divided into two groups: a control group with no anodization reaction (42 pieces) and a test group with anodization reaction (42 pieces). All test pieces were subjected to hardness testing, and two pieces from the control group and the test group were observed with an electron microscope. The remaining test pieces from the control and test groups were further divided into four groups (n=10). These groups were used to bond with four types of self-adhesive resin cements, Maxcem Elite, PanaviaTM SA Luting Multi, Rely XTM U200, and seT PP SDI. Subsequently, the test pieces were stored in distilled water at 37 degrees Celsius for 24 hours. Shear bond strength values were determined using a universal testing machine with a crosshead speed of 0.5 millimeters per minute. Data were analyzed using two-way ANOVA analysis of variance and compared the hardness before and after anodization using the t-test. The experiment concluded that anodization significantly increased the roughness of titanium, which was associated with the observation of an oxide layer that interconnected and covered the entire titanium surface. Furthermore, anodization improved the bonding between different types of self-adhesive resin cements significantly, with PanaviaTM SA Luting Multi providing the highest tensile strength value.
