Abstract: The purposes of this research were 1) to examine the knowledge, understanding, and basic skills of assessing wheelchairs among care providers of children with disabilities attached to the Regional Special Education Center 8, Chiang Mai Province; 2) to develop a wheelchair service curriculum for care providers of children with disabilities attached to the Regional Special Education Center 8, Chiang Mai Province, which evolved from the basic wheelchair service training curriculum of the World Health Organization (2014) using the curriculum development model of Taba (1962); and 3) to evaluate the effectiveness of the wheelchair assessment training curriculum among two groups of population: care providers of children with disabilities attached to the Regional Special Education Center 8, Chiang Mai Province who provided services to 33 disabled students receiving services at home, and a sample onsisting of 1 care provider of children with disabilities who served disabled students within the Regional Special Education Center 8, Chiang Mai Province, and 6 care providers of children with disabilities who served disabled students receiving services at home. The research tools included 1) a questionnaire consisted of knowledge of children with multiple disabilities, wheelchairs, basic wheelchair skills and wheelchair assessment; 2) a wheelchair assessment skills assessment form; 3) a wheelchair assessment training curriculum; and 4) a wheelchair assessment test administered pre- and post-training. The results showed that the developed wheelchair assessment training curriculum had the following effectiveness values: 1) For the training of one care provider, it was found that the effectiveness score of the curriculum from the wheelchair assessment test administered pre- and post-training was 84.12/81.88, which was higher than the set criteria. 2) For the training of six care providers, it was found that the effectiveness score of the curriculum from the wheelchair assessment test administered pre- and post-training was 76.2/78.04, which was lower than the set criteria of 80/80, at 3.8/1.96. However, it is considered significantly acceptable. Therefore, this wheelchair assessment training curriculum is suitable and aligns with the conditions and needs of care providers for children with disabilities, following the guidelines for wheelchair assessment by the World Health Organization (2014) and the curriculum development model of Taba (1962).
