Abstract: Child sexual harassment has an upward trend that affects the physical and mental state of children. Therefore, sexual harassment prevention among middle school girls through family participation is extremely necessary. This study used a quasi-experimental design with two pretest-posttest groups which aimed to examine the effect of the family participation program on sexual harassment prevention practices among parents of middle school girls in the community. The samples were forty-two parents of middle school girls who were purposively selected and assigned into control and experimental groups with twenty-one participants in each group. The study was implemented from February to April 2023. The instruments used in this study consisted of the family participation program, developed from the participation concept of Cohen and Uphoff (1981); a handbook on sexual harassment among middle school girls for parents; and a questionnaire on sexual harassment prevention practices among parents of middle school girls. The instruments were approved by six experts with a content validity index value of .94 and a reliability value of .95. Data were analyzed by descriptive statistics and paired t-test. The research results revealed that after the family participation program 1) parents in the group receiving the program had a mean score of sexual harassment prevention practice higher than before receiving the program (t = 5.57, p < .001) and 2) parents in the group receiving the program had a mean score of sexual harassment prevention practice higher than the group who did not receive the program (t = 5.89, p < .001). The results of this study show that the family participation program can increase sexual harassment prevention practices among parents of middle school girls in the community. Therefore, this family participation program should be implemented to prevent further sexual harassment of middle school girls in other schools.
