Abstract: Biomass is a renewable source of energy that can be converted into heat energy through the production of biomass charcoal. This research aims to identify strategies for operating sustainable biomass charcoal production to ensure long-term sustainability. The sustainability perspective is categorized into three essential aspects: economic, environmental, and social considerations. The research focuses on modeling and measuring the sustainability performance of smokeless biomass charcoal production from various biomass charcoal producers. A comprehensive evaluation criteria model was developed based on a literature review and expert assessment to establish a sustainable performance measurement for producing smokeless biomass charcoal. The suitability of 20 indicators was analyzed, and their significance scores were determined through an expert survey. The results revealed that the economy received the highest score, followed by the social and environmental aspects. Furthermore, the research evaluated the sustainability performance among four types of biomass charcoal producers: coconut shell charcoal, longan wood charcoal, charcoal mixed with coconut shell and wood, and wood charcoal. The assessment indicated that longan wood charcoal achieved the highest total score. Overall, this research emphasizes the importance of sustainability in biomass charcoal production and provides a framework for measuring and modeling the sustainability performance of different producers ,by considering economic, environmental, and social aspects to ensure the long-term sustainability of smokeless biomass charcoal production. The findings serve as a valuable guide for manufacturers in making informed decisions regarding biomass material selection, aiming to balance economic profitability with social and environmental responsibility. In summary, this research contributes to the promotion of sustainable practices in the energy sector, particularly in biomass charcoal production.
