Abstract: In this age, innovation is a pivotal element to improve efficacy and effectiveness of any organization including healthcare and nursing whereas innovative work behavior (IWB) of nurses is critical element needed for the production of nursing innovation The aim of this descriptive predictive study was to examine the influence of transformation leadership (TL) and psychological empowerment (PE) on IWB among nurses in Tertiary Hospitals of Yunnan Province, the People's Republic of China. Stratified random sampling technique was used to select 379 nurses working at two tertiary hospitals in Kunming city. The research measurements included the Chinese Transformation Leadership Questionnaire (CTLQ), Chinese Psychological Empowerment Questionnaire (CPEQ), and the Chinese version of Innovative Work Behavior Questionnaire (IWBQ), translated by the researcher. The Cronbach's alpha coefficients of the instruments were .91, .80 and, 85, respectively. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and binary logistic regression analysis. The results of this study are as follows: 1. The overall IWB among nurses was at moderate level (x̅ =30.60, SD=6.89). Idea generation of IWB was high (x̅ =12.87, SD=1.58), while the rest competences of IWB were at a moderate level, including idea exploration (x̅ =6.97, SD=1.67), idea championing (x̅ =6.06, SD=1.72), and idea implementation (x̅ =7.99, SD=2.49). 2. There are two predictors of IWB: visionary of TL (OR=.90, 95% CI=82-99) and self-determination of PE (OR=1.35. 95% CI=1.14-1.61). Overall, all predictors could explain 10% (Nagelkerke R2) of variability in IWB. The results of this study could be used as the based information for hospitals and nursing administrators to create strategies for improving visionary of TL and self- determination of PE in order to facilitate IWB of nurses.
