Abstract: Aphasia is a language disorder that affects communication. Aphasia patients should receive intensive speech therapy in order to regain their speech and language skills for maximum potential. However, there are numerous limitations in Thailand. One of which is the scarcity of speech and language pathologists. Thus, the researcher has created the speech and language therapy guidebook for Aphasia patients which caregivers can use to help those with Aphasia at home. This guidebook will increase the comprehension and frequency of therapy. However, this guidebook has never been studied for research. This study aimed to (1) compare the Aphasia quotient (AQ) score of the samples before and after receiving speech therapy by using the guidebook and (2) study the satisfactory score of the caregivers after using the guidebook. The study can be separated into 3 steps: The first step was the development of the interview form for explicit problems and satisfaction survey. The Index of Item-Objective Congruence (IOC) from 5 experts for the instruments showed total scores of 0.98 and 1, respectively, revealing that the content validity was acceptable. The second step was the trial phase of using the guidebook. The result from 3 samples showed problems with a lack of knowledge to use the guidebook (100%). The researcher has acknowledged the problems and devised precautionary measures for the next step of the study. The third step was the study of the effectiveness of the speech therapy using the guidebook in 9 aphasic samples for 4 weeks, 7 days per week, 3 times of 30 minutes of practice, or a total of 90 minutes a day. The results revealed that after the caregivers practiced the speech therapy to the samples as the guidebook assigned, all 9 samples (100%) improved the AQ score and decreased the severity of speech and language impairments. Furthermore, the caregivers were satisfied with the overall guidebook at the most satisfied level which scored 4.88 out of 5. In summary, the basic speech and language therapy guidebook for Aphasia patients helps improve speaking and language skills for aphasia patients and tends to reduce the severity of Aphasia. The caregivers were also satisfied with the guidebook in all aspects at the most satisfied level.
