Abstract: The construction of "the people under royal patronage" of the Pgaz k'nyan ethnic group in Doi Inthanon area is a process under socioeconomic transformations that are closely intertwined with their ethnicity. Since the times of their settlement, Pgaz k'nyan society around Doi Inthanon has revolved around the intra-group relations, including the spatial environment around them. From the 1950s, changes coming from the outside, especially the expansion of Thai state mechanisms to manage the "area" under the discourse of "hill-tribe problems", pushed the Pgaz kinyan into hardship in many respects. Around the same time, the Thai monarchy also expanded its role to alleviate their plight, such as granting them citizenship and maintaining their livelihoods, which allowed them to thrive. Especially after the 1980s, their livelihoods began to intertwine with capitalist exchange more intensively. "Royal projects' farmers" became a channel for an economically secure life for them. Not only producing commercially, being an agricultural worker in the royal projects also ties them closely with the institution. This intensified from the late 1990s when it was no longer only about survival and liveliboods, but also identities, constructed and reconstructed in different dimensions. The idea of "the people under royal patronage" has taken root into the perception of the larger Thai society through such processes.
