Abstract: Older persons with psoriasis vulgaris who have good self-care behaviors can reduce disturbances or serious complications. This correlational descriptive research aimed to study health literacy, self-care behaviors and the relationship between health literacy and self-care behaviors. The 88 participants were 60 years and over and had been diagnosed with psoriasis vulgaris. The data collection instruments consisted of a health literacy questionnaire for older persons with psoriasis vulgaris and a self-care behavior questionnaire. These questionnaires had a Cronbach’s alpha coefficient of 0.87 and a Pearson’s correlation coefficient of 0.85, respectively. Data analysis was performed using descriptive statistics and Spearman's rank correlation. The results revealed that the participants had health literacy and self-care behaviors at a moderate level. Furthermore, health literacy positively correlated with self-care behaviors at a moderate level with statistically significance (r = 0.610, p < .001). The results from this research provide basic information for health care personnel in planning to promote health literacy to help older persons with psoriasis make appropriate adjustments to their self-care behaviors.
