Abstract: Objectives: To study the effect of acrylic resin reinforcement methods on flexural properties, which consist of flexural strength and flexural modulus. Materials and Methods: Acrylic resin specimens (10 x 64 x 3.3 mm) were reinforced with 5 different materials: cast metal framework, double metal wires, single metal wire, stainless steel mesh and silanized nano-silica particles. The control group was an acrylic resin that is not reinforced. Flexural strength and flexural modulus were investigated for all groups and were analyzed using one-way ANOVA at 95% confidence intervals. Fracture sites of specimen were examined by scanning electron microscope (SEM). Results: The average flexural strength ranged from 100.01 to 130.13 MPa. The highest flexural strength of acrylic resins was found in the group reinforced with cast metal framework (130.13 ± 9.92 MPa), significantly different from the control group. The second were the group reinforced with double metal wires (126.76 ± 10.94 MPa), and the group reinforced with single metal wire (117.11 ± 4.72 MPa), not significantly different from the control group. The average of flexural modulus ranged from 2.12 to 3.47 GPa. The highest flexural modulus was found in the group which reinforced with cast metal framework (3.47 ± 0.53 GPa), significantly different from the control group and other groups. The second was the group reinforced with double metal wires (2.69 ± 0.21 GPa), significantly higher than the control group. Conclusion: Reinforcing with cast metal framework, double metal wires and single metal wire could increase flexural strength and flexural modulus of acrylic resin. The acrylic resin reinforced with cast metal framework had the highest flexural strength and flexural modulus, significantly different from the control group.
