Abstract: This study aims to investigate factors affecting loan-approving decisions of Government Savings Bank (GSB) Credit in northern Thailand. Two sets of questionnaires were used to collect data. The first set, aiming for factors affecting credit evaluations for individual and fundamental credit customers, consisted of 6 core factors and 27 minor factors, collecting data from 409 credit officers. The second set, aiming for business credit customers, consisted of 6 core factors and 39 minor factors collecting from 406 credit officers. Data were statistically analyzed by using frequency, percentage, mean and ANOVA. The result reveals that the factors affecting loan-approving decisions by credit officers among different experiences and regions for individual and fundamental credit customers were statistically indifferent. Amongst all the factors investigated, 24 factors were considered “highly important”, while the other 3 factors were considered “moderately important”. The result from the part of business loan also reveals that, the officers’ job experiences and regions did not significantly affect the credit evaluations for business customers. Amongst the factors investigated, 35 factors were considered “highly important”, while the remaining 4 factors were considered “moderately important”.
