This qualitative research is the study about theoretical concept in terms of light phenomenon in architecture as well as the study about the concept of natural light in architecture. The procedures are firstly analyzing the data in order to find factors which affect the natural light in the vernacular house. Secondly, experimenting the design in order to find its quality, recognizing the light found in the vernacular house and how it can turn into the application of designing natural light in architecture in order to harmonize the social context nowadays. This study is found that the patterns of the bamboo wall effect the quality of natural light found in the local house and the most important factor is the dimness in the internal area which can help to create the light phenomenon in the vernacular house. Furthermore, the natural light influences the relationship between sensation and perception. They also play the significant role in indicating roles, applying the use of space and creating the memory. Experimental design, which is inspired by the essence found from the decoding process in the first part, focuses on both physical and abstract ideas. Additionally, the concept in this kind of design might be the alternative guideline which could apply to the contemporary architecture design.
