The value and the mystery of faith through installation art

Abstract

The work on the value and mystery of faith through the installation art project was conducted with the objectives to reflect positive issues concerning mystical beliefs that are valuable as a spiritual anchor and a part of the mental fulfillment, and to create an art work that demonstrates how the encouragement and spiritual anchor are important for people living in the present era. The author began researching the background of mixed religious beliefs and objects of belief in Thai society, including mysterious stories that can create positive encouragement for believers from the past to the present. The current impacts of the principles of science and rationality play significant roles in shaping how people live, resulting in the fact that beliefs and faith become credulity and the value of beliefs and faith as a spiritual anchor may be easily overlooked. Sometimes, just rationality alone cannot completely fulfill people’s mental state. This is because problems make people feel unable to control their own destinies. That is why people feel the need to rely on beliefs in the hope that will serve them as an encouragement in their living. From the aforementioned information studied, it was analyzed to develop a concept to create a space of positive belief and faith through 1) the process of creating the installation art work to result in a body of knowledge on art, and 2) the issue of the value and mystery of faith through installation art. The author hopes that this research will be beneficial to those who are interested in issues of belief, faith, and works of arts.
