Abstract: This research aims to develop an electroactive bio-composite hydrogel to apply as an actuator that can respond to electric current. The preparation of triple-network hydrogels of three co-matrixed biopolymers containing alginate/carrageenan/carboxymethy1 cellulose was studied. It was found that the optimum condition for the preparation of triple-network hydrogel was at carrageenan concentration equal to 2 g which causing highest mechanical properties in term of tensile strength and elongation at break (408.2754 ± 14.1489 kPa and 60.7881 ± 2.58939, respectively). In addition, polythiophene was synthesized and doped via in-situ chemical polymerization. Electrical conductivity of the synthesized polythiophene was found to be 247.4432 ± 0.3569 S/cm. An electroactive bio-composite hydrogel was further fabricated by adding synthesized polythiophene particles to | the triple-network alginate/carrageenan/carboxymethy1 cellulose hydrogel. The results showed that polythiophene can promote mechanical properties of the hydrogels. Upon the application of electric field, the hydrogels obviously showed the response by bend toward cathode electrode. Moreover, the electro-response properties of the hydrogels increased with the increasing of polythiophene concentration and electric field strength.
