Abstract: Cerebral palsy is a physical disability that affects movement and posture, with a risk of complications and communication impairment. Severe communication impairment may require augmentative and alternative communication. Partner-Assisted Scanning (PAS) is a technique used with children who have severe motor and communication impairment. Many studies have shown that PAS is effective way to increase communication. However, there is limited research on this topic in Thailand. The purpose of this study was to develop a communication book for children with cerebral palsy and communication disorders by using the partner-assisted scanning method. Additionally, the study aimed to compare the pre-and post-test communication abilities of children and the satisfaction level of the communication partners using the communication book. The research design employed a one-group pretest-posttest design. The research tools included four instruments: 1) an assessment of the communication abilities of children with cerebral palsy by using the partner-assisted scanning method, 2) an evaluation form for the satisfaction of the communication partner assisting in the use of the communication book with the partner-assisted scanning method, 3) a manual for using the communication book for children with cerebral palsy and communication disorders by using the partner-assisted scanning method, and 4) a communication book for children with cerebral palsy and communication disorders by using the partner-assisted scanning method. The validity of all four tools together was 0.97. The experimental tool was used with three families with the highest overall satisfaction level (mean = 4.67, SD = 0.49). Then, the experimental tool was tested with a sample group of ten families for five weeks. The researcher followed up on the results for 30-45 minutes one day a week, and the statistical analysis used was the Wilcoxon Matched Pair Signed Rank test. The researcher found that the children with cerebral palsy and the partner-assisted scanning method communication abilities scores were significantly different (p < 0.05) [Median Difference (MD) = 13, 95% Confident Interval (CI) = 8.5-14.5]. The scores on all assessment items demonstrated a clear upward trend after using the communication book. The assessment item with the highest total score was assessment item 1, positive emotional communication, and the assessment item with the lowest score was assessment item 2, negative emotional communication. The satisfaction of the communication partners in using the communication book for children with cerebral palsy and communication disorders by using the partner-assisted scanning method was found to be the highest (mean = 4.57, SD = 0.52).
