An empirical research based on trade gravity model: the impact of Sino-US trade frictions on China’s high-tech products export

Abstract

In this study, the relationships of the Chinese export value of high-tech products to the United States with gross domestic product of China, gross domestic product of United States, U.S. tariffs on Chinese high-tech products and the trade transportation cost between China and the U.S. are analyzed by using 2000-2021 yearly data. It is found that the increase in the U.S. tariffs on China's high-tech products have positively affected China’s export of high -tech products to the United States, the U.S. tariffs on China's high-tech products increase 1% leads to 1.0097% Chinese exports of high-tech products to the United States increase. Additionally, gross domestic product of China, gross domestic product of United States and the trade transportation cost between China and the U.S. also have statistically significant effects on the Chinese export value of high-tech products to the United States, gross domestic product of China increase 1% leads to 0.0532% Chinese exports of high-tech products to the United States decrease, gross domestic product of United States increase 1% leads to 0.3536% Chinese exports of high-tech products to the United States increase, but the trade transportation cost between China and the U.S. has only a small impact on the Chinese export value of high-tech products to the United States, the trade transportation cost increase 1% will lead to 0.0061% Chinese exports of high-tech products to the United States decrease.
