Herbal medications are gaining popularity in many countries. Although most can be used without any problem, serious toxicities do occur. Adverse events can be anticipated when herbal medications are used at excessive dose, long-term, for non-approved indications or by patients who are using multiple medications. Adverse events should be anticipated when these herbal medications with identified pharmacological effects or toxic ingredients are used.
