Abstract: The purpose of this thesis is to examine the penetration resistance ability of Teak leaf lamina, estimated by toughness measured as the work to fracture the lamina in punch and die test. The samples were collected randomly from four directions, on the same Teak. The punch positions on the leaf were divided into two areas, middle region and margin region. Environmental factors were collected, such as temperature, ambient relative humidity and light intensity throughout the life cycle of the leaf, for examining the relationship between these factors and the lamina toughness. The results show that the average lamina toughness is 135.7 J.m−2. The local lamina toughness on the margin region is higher than that on the middle region, which indicating that the local lamina toughness is proportional to the local small netted vein distribution density that varies from the margin to the middle region. The average lamina toughness of the leaf depends on the leaf position on the Teak.
