Abstract

The objective of this research was to study the instructors usage, benefit, needs, problems and suggestions in using the online databases subscribed by the Learning Resources and Educational Media Center (LREMC), Mae Fah Luang University.

This research was the survey research, questionnaires were sent to 430 instructors of which 337 questionnaires (78.37%) replied. The results were analyzed by the statistic program. The results of this research showed that mostly instructors (71.51%) experienced in using the online databases. The most online database used was Elsevier eBooks (EBS Model) (67.22%) and the least was CNKI (4.15%). 24.07% Of users agreed that the most benefit of using online databases was they were kept up with academic issues; whereas 21.99% found as resources of research proposal for grants and 21.58% gained up to date knowledge. Problems found from using the databases were: (1) Users did not know how to use them (2) unclear instructions given by staffs (3) unable to download the full text of all documents and (4) unable to connect to the network via VPN system. Instructors suggested for LREMC to provide full text of each database and add up new databases; to inform on how to use online databases from outside the network via VPN system; to inform about online databases service for instructors individually and to organize the individual and group training on using online databases.
